At the center of the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a shepherd boy. His life was essentially untarnished, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was essentially to tend to his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the breezes through the single tree on the hilltop were his main companions. Day after day, guarding his responsibilities inculcated in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plan.

Tales of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.

One afternoon he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills for rescue but found no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. However, one noon, a real wolf actually charge here at the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
